Choosing your wedding day florist

Although we are wedding-lite at this time of year here in Cornwall, we still seem really busy in the studio. Enquiries from couples seem to peak at this time of year and I spend my days looking at spreadsheets for the coming year, thinking about the flowers that will be growing locally to us during all the different months of the main wedding season, and chatting to couples about their gorgeous plans for their wedding days.

If you are in the process of booking up your wedding day suppliers, and have stumbled across Bude Botanical on a search of Instagram or the web, or have come here from Launcells Barton or the Cornish Tent Company’s website (we’re recommended suppliers for both), then here is a quick blog post about the process of booking me in as your wedding day florist.

I very much like to think it is a super well organised, warm and lovely experience and not scary in the slightest. You don’t have to know a single thing about flowers, and you don’t have to have it all worked out before you phone or email me. Even if you are in the early stages of your wedding day planning, it’s still worth getting in touch to say hi.

First things first

Drop me a quick line to see if I have your wedding day available in my diary. I usually get back to my couples within 24 hours of your enquiry arriving in my inbox.

I’ll let you know whether I have your wedding date available and if I have then I suggest that we meet up on Zoom (or for a cuppa if you’re based locally) for a 30 minute chat about your wedding day plans. I usually send you a handful of dates to choose from, and I can do evenings and weekends, if that suits you better.

Have a nose around

In that initial email, I will send you details of my two wedding day packages, so you can have a think about which might better suit your floral budget. I also encourage you to have a nose around the rest of my website – and my Instagram – where you will find loads of photographs of my work, some info about me, Rachel; my style of floristry as well as lovely things my couples have said about me and my work. There’s also a big section about my commitment to sustainability , which I know is so important to my clients.

Let’s chat

I love, love, love getting to know my lovely clients, and love to chat with you about all your plans for your wedding day. If you have an idea of your colour palette, then that’s great – but don’t worry if you haven’t decided yet, or if you would like some suggestions based on the flowers that will be in season when you get married – we can absolutely help with that.

I’ll talk you through the whole process, answer all the questions you have, and share the expertise and wisdom I have gathered as both a gardener and seasonal wedding florist.

Then leave things to me

Once we have chatted, and depending on the wedding day package that you have chosen, you will then swiftly (usually within 10 days) get a quotation and/or visual proposal for you to consider. We can always chat/email further if you need any more ideas, or if you have further questions.

The bits I need from you

If you decide to book me in as your wedding day florist, I will quickly send you an invoice for my booking deposit, as well as my booking form – and once I have received the deposit and the completed form your date is secure in my diary.

You can then sit back, tick the ‘book florist’ off your list, and be a little bit smug about being so super organised.

And then…

We head off to our gorgeous growers – Georgina at River Garden and Phoebe and The Good Grubb Garden, who will begin making plans to grow the flowers for your wedding day. They create magical things on their beautiful plots and pour so much care and attention into growing your wedding day flowers, right here in the South West. They are at the heart of my business and I adore working with these wonderful women. Go and give them a follow on their socials.

Super calm wedding mornings

We are exceptionally calm and unflappable people – mainly because we really love being super organised. About six weeks before your wedding day, we usually have a very quick catch up to make final arrangements for delivery and set up of your flowers. After this meeting we will send you an invoice for the balance of your flowers and then we will begin to look forward to seeing you on the morning of your wedding…seeing you just before you say your I do’s, and getting excited about flowers and weddings with you, really is the best part of our jobs.

We’d love to hear from you.

All best wishes, Rachel x
