Funeral Flowers

We know that for hundreds of years, flowers have been given as tokens of sympathy, of condolence and of remembrance. They can convey, without words, messages of love, of friendship and of kinship.

It’s no different today; in the saddest of times, flowers can add beauty to the most difficult of days. They can encourage us to talk about the person we have lost and they can bring a much needed smile, or a glimpse of a happy memory.

My lovely mam and I still talk of the flowers we had at my Nana’s funeral. Despite her long life, we were all terribly sad she was gone, but the sight of her coffin festooned with the gaudiest of flowers – her favourite floral colour palette – cheered us all. Nana adored flowers – bright, bright gladioli were her kind of floral heaven. On the day of her funeral, I imagined her being delighted with what we had chosen, and that was a great comfort.

A tribute for your loved one

It would be my pleasure to create a floral tribute for your loved one. Please have a look at the types of arrangements I have created and do get in touch if you would like to talk through your requirements. The brief can be as long as you like – tell me all about the person and what they loved. Tell me about their garden, if they had one, or tell me if they had a favourite colour. Tell me if they loved roses, or hated lillies, or if they loved things that were simple and unfussy or glamourous and grand. Or the brief can be much shorter if you’d prefer – it can be as simple as; you’d like something beautiful, or bright, or pretty or pink.

If it all feels like too much to talk, then drop me an email, or if you spot an image you like here, just tell me to create something similar to that. I know this can be the hardest of times, and I’d like to make the process as simple as possible for you

“We chose Bude Botanical for the arrangements for my mum’s funeral because of Rachel’s ethos and approach to providing seasonal, local arrangements.

Rachel’s friendly approach made it easy to discuss our requirements at a particularly sad time. Nothing was too much trouble and she made sure we were happy with the plans for mum’s arrangements.

The arrangements that Rachel produced were beautiful and more than fulfilled our expectations. We know mum would have been happy too.”

Examples of my work

Casket Sprays

Florists call this kind of arrangement a coffin or casket spray. As you would imagine from the name, they sit on top of the coffin. We can make them in different sizes (the one pictured is four feet in length) and they can be anything from 3ft-6ft. The costs are usually between £150 and £300 depnding on the size and the flowers used. Our casket sprays are fully biodegradable and contain no single use plastics or floral foam.

Posy Arrangements

This type of arrangement is usually referred to by florists as a posy . Essentially it’s a circular arrangement with a flat underside. We can make them in a range of sizes. This one pictured here measured 14inches across. They cost between £40 and £100 depending on the size and flowers used.
Our posy arrangments are fully biodegradable and contain no single use plastics or floral foam.

Floral Sheaves

These arrangements are a handtied bouquet of flowers. Unlike a traditional handtied bouquet that you may have received as a gift (which are made to look pretty from all angles when placed in a vase), we arrange this type of bouquet so that it can be laid flat – so essentially they have foiliage at the back and then beautiful flowers laid on top. They can be laid on a coffin, or laid at the graveside. These arrangements can be made in different sizes and cost from £35 – £80 depending on th size and flowers used.

Willow Based Wreaths

We can make a very wild and natural looking willow based wreaths using lots of foliages, berries, seedheads and flowers that will last well with no water source. These arrangements are completely biodegradable and cost in the region of £50-£80, depending on flowers and foliage used.

Heart Shaped Arrangement

This arrangement is like the posy arrangement but instead of being circular in shape it is arranged in the shape of a heart. Like the posy arrangement it has a flat underside. Our heart shape arrangements measure 14inches across and cost between £50 – £100 depending on the flowers and foiliages used. Our heart shaped arrangments are fully biodegradable and contain no single use plastics or floral foam.

Rattan Basket Wreath

Many funeral flowers are simply discarded after the cremation service, but we know that some families would prefer them not to be thrown away and wish to go on taking pleasure in the beautiful flowers they have chosen after the funeral. This wreath can be left at the graveside or the family could bring this arrangement home after service and have it displayed in their home. No floral foam is used in this arrangement and prices start at £70.

Planted Rattan Basket Wreath

This basket has been planted with Spring bulbs, primula and ivy and can be brought home by the family after the service and enjoyed in the home. Once the flowers have faded they can be planted out in a garden pot or border ready to flower again the following year. The plants that the basket contains will change with the seasons. Prices start at £60.

Planted Rattan Square Basket

This basket has been planted with winter flowers and foliage and can be brought home by the family after the service and enjoyed in the home. Once the flowers have faded they can be planted out in a garden pot or border ready to flower again the following year. The plants that the basket contains will change with the seasons. Prices start at £50.
